Baynunah Camel Site — ancient life and the Neolithic people in Al Dhafra

LISTEN TO THIS PAGE
The Baynunah Camel Site preserves the remains of a wild camel hunt 6,000 years ago, long before these animals were domesticated.
About 6,000 years ago in the Al Dhafra Region of Abu Dhabi, a group of Neolithic hunters successfully brought down a large number of wild camels, creating the earliest and largest known mass kill-site of wild camels in the world.

This archaeological area provides an understanding of elements of the ancient life in Abu Dhabi, including the hunting practices of Neolithic people. As wild camels no longer exist, this site is also important in providing exceptional insights into the biology of the wild progenitor of today’s domesticated camel.
