Abu Dhabi Music Program 2022

Abu Dhabi Music Program 2022

Abu Dhabi Culture presents the Abu Dhabi Music Programme, which revives the incredibly rich dialogue around music, from cultures around the world.

Through its programs, Abu Dhabi Classics, Bait Al Oud Series, Sound of UAE and Umsiyat, the Department of Culture & Tourism Abu Dhabi presents some of the main artists in the field of Arabic and Western classical music with an aim to display how borderlines between the so called 'Western', 'Arabic' and 'Local' classical music have become porous. At the same time, the Department is offering an extended programme dedicated to regional heritage music thus proposing a unique musical panorama for all listeners.

The Department, as part of its musical programme also aims to combine the educational efforts of younger generations and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the UAE by organizing several dialogues, workshops and lectures by some of the most important contemporary musicians in a bid to revive the culture of dialogue, tolerance and openness to other cultures.

Abu Dhabi Classics 2022

Abu Dhabi Classics returns this year for another season of dynamic classical and traditional music programmes in the capital.

A highlight of the cultural calendar, music enthusiasts can expect a rich and diverse selection of performances, built on the works of leading composers.

Solo Piano Recital
Gala Concert

On 2 March 2022, for the first time in the Gulf Region, one of the most prestigious works of the Classical Repertoire — Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations — will be performed in its entirety, here in Abu Dhabi. It will be the first public performance of this work by Chinese superstar pianist Lang Lang since the pandemic.

Lang Lang, a leading figure in classical music, is an educator and philanthropist who has become one of the world’s most influential and committed ambassadors for the arts in the 21st century.

Considered by the New York Times as: “The hottest artist on the classical music planet,” Lang Lang has studied the Goldberg Variations for many decades. In 2020, he decided to release his recording of Bach’s masterpiece and to offer his interpretation of what is considered one of the most complex classical music compositions and which represents the highest expression of the art of variations in the Baroque period. Widely praised by critics, Lang Lang’s performance of the Variations has completely modernised our understanding of these keyboard pieces, written in 1741.
