Lullabies in the World of Islam

detail banner
The “Lullabies in the World of Islam” collection presents a living heritage communicated through a shared collective experience.

Performers from 23 countries sing soothing lullabies that bring serenity and contentedness, reminiscent of those intimate moments of childhood slumber. The recording of these songs and their accompanying descriptions preserve this cultural heritage for future generations.

The cultural lullabies’ significance, history and form are explained for each country, along with the lyrics and brief interpretations of the words and symbols. The collection of audio files and video recordings, along with introductions and transcripts, take us on a journey to explore the lullabies of the United Arab Emirates, Albania, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Indian Ocean, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Senegal, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

This research, documentation and song recording by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi represents work to safeguard the heritage of the United Arab Emirates and the wider region.
