The museum’s collection highlights points of intersection and transcultural exchange, examines specific contexts and histories, and recognises truly distinctive achievements. Encompassing art since circa 1960, the collection currently comprises over 600 works spanning artistic media, several generations of artists, and an ever-widening number of countries and regions, including a dedicated focus on the Gulf and West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia (WANASA) more broadly.
Dedicated to robust educational and community outreach, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will advance the study and interpretation of global modern and contemporary art. Through its programmes, the museum will share new knowledge and insights on art from the WANASA region and beyond.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi reflects the Emirate’s vision as a cultural leader in the region and a place of exchange. The museum plays a civic role through its mission to spark wider interest and awareness of global modern and contemporary art while offering a creative platform for artists from around the world.
Designed by Pritzker-prize winning architect Frank Gehry, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be located in the Saadiyat Cultural District.
