Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Collection Artist Sarah Morris in Conversation with Philip Tinari

The first commissioned artwork for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection, Abu Dhabi (2016) by internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Sarah Morris will be on view at Manarat Al Saadiyat.

Morris is known for using the medium of film to create moving-image portraits of historically significant places around the world at transformative points in time. The film Abu Dhabi will take viewers on a visual journey across the capital and includes a look into National Day celebrations, the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and the Liwa Desert.

The artist will join Philip Tinari, Director of UCCA, Beijing, for a conversation about her inspiration and artistic process in a Guggenheim Abu Dhabi: Talking Art Series during Abu Dhabi Art. As one of the first artists commissioned for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection, Morris will share the conceptual foundations for the film and its evolution from pre-production research and development to completion, immersing the viewer in the creative process of filmmaking. This conversation will also focus on Morris’s recent solo exhibition at UCCA, Sarah Morris: Odysseus Factor (March–June 2018), where her entire cinematic output was presented alongside her paintings, highlighting the way she simultaneously works across media to explore the spatial quality of urban architecture.
