Overview

Codices of Mexico: The Old Book of the New World exhibition will showcase the preserved the ancestral wisdom of the original people of the Mexican nation.

The codices are one of the most important sources to approach the ancient cultures of Mexico. They are a memory of the high degree of cultural, scientific and artistic development of the native people of Mexico.

Elaborated on different materials such amate paper, skin, maguey fiber, cotton and European paper, represent complex systems of beliefs and knowledge that cover all areas of life: geographical, historical, economic, calendrical and symbolic records.

The validity of these documents is not limited to the past, even today, communities resort to them as a historical source, legal support and a symbol of identity.
