Overview

Qasr Al Hosn, Abu Dhabi’s historic landmark, was the ancestral home of the Al Nahyan ruling family and is the oldest building on Abu Dhabi Island.

A seat of rule and a fortified stronghold, a family home, a centre for the community and an emblem of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Hosn has more than one story to tell. It is a place of many layers and secrets awaiting discovery.

Witness the island’s evolution from a small coastal community into a thriving global capital. Today, Qasr Al Hosn has been reinstated as the symbolic heart of Abu Dhabi. Over the course of its history, it has evolved with Abu Dhabi, responding to the needs of its rulers and its people.

In 1979, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan decreed that Qasr Al Hosn would be reinstated to its former glory. As part of this process, a significant proportion of the inner fort was completely rebuilt based on historical photographs. Today, the historic watchtower stands as the only original element of the 18th century construction.
