Baynunah Camel Site, a rare historical site in Al Dhafra The Baynunah Camel Site preserves the remains of a 6,000-year-old wild camel hunt, long before these animals were domesticated

Nearly 6,000 years ago in the Al Dhafra region of western Abu Dhabi, a group of Neolithic period hunters successfully brought down a large number of wild camels, creating the earliest and largest known mass kill site of wild camels in the world. Thousands of years before the domestication of camels, these hunters killed and butchered dozens of the animals at the site.

The site provides important insights into ancient life in Abu Dhabi, including the hunting practices of Neolithic people. As wild camels no longer exist, this site is also important in providing unparalleled insights into the biology of the wild progenitor of today’s domesticated camel.
