Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Vasily
Petrenko and Timothy Chooi

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) ranks today not only among the best, but also among the most versatile orchestras. Founded in 1946 by legendary conductor Sir Thomas Beecham, the orchestra has built a consistent career over the years, reaching international quality, and recording some legendary performances with soloists such as Yehudi Menuhin or Luciano Pavarotti.

The RPO, under the baton of its new musical director, Russian–British conductor Vasily Petrenko, will play two nights in Abu Dhabi: the first one, a classical night, will feature works of Elgar and Korngold as well as, to celebrate the composer's 150th birthday, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s magnificent and widely popular Symphony No. 2 in E minor.

For Erich Korngold’s Violin Concerto, composed 1945 right after the Second World War, the orchestra will be joined by the young Canadian American Timothy Chooi, a multiple competition winner, who is widely regarded as one of the most thrilling upcoming violin stars worldwide.
