Arabic Manuscripts from East to West: Spain and Italy as a Model

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in coordination with the National Marciana Library of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the University Library of Bologna, the National Library of Spain, and the Royal Library of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, is pleased to announce the third edition of the Abu Dhabi Manuscripts Conference, taking place on 7 and 8 December 2022 at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi.

The conference will feature scholars, specialists, and experts in the field of Arabic manuscripts from Italy, Spain as well as various parts of the Arab world. The conference sessions will discuss Arab civilisational achievements and their impact on European culture in fields such as linguistics, calligraphy, poetry, music, literature, and science.

The sessions will also discuss the importance of studying, translating and preserving Arabic manuscripts to enhance knowledge exchange between East and West countries, as well as shed the light on the role of the UAE, and the emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular, in preserving and disseminating Arab heritage.

On the sidelines of the conference, DCT Abu Dhabi is hosting the Pearls of Wisdom exhibition at Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Watan from 6 December 2022 to 6 January 2023. The exhibition explores the influence of Arab culture in Europe through a presentation of valuable manuscripts that demonstrate the role of Arab civilisation in generating religious dialogue and knowledge exchanging that paved the way for European renaissance and enlightenment.
