The Lullabies in the World of Islam collection presents living heritage communicated through a shared collective experience

This collection of audio files and video recordings, by performers from 23 countries, contains soothing lullabies that bring serenity and contentedness, reminiscent of those intimate moments of childhood slumber. The recordings of these songs and their accompanying descriptions preserve this cultural heritage for future generations.

The cultural significance, history and form of each lullaby is explained, along with the lyrics and an interpretation of the words and symbols. Together with their introductions and transcripts, each recording takes you on a journey, to explore the lullabies of the United Arab Emirates, Albania, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Indian Ocean, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Senegal, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

This body of research, documentation and song recordings by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) represents work to safeguard the heritage of the United Arab Emirates and the wider region.
