This guide to Bait Mohammed bin Khalifa walks visitors through the highlights and unique features of this gem of United Arab Emirates’ architectural style between the 1930s and the 1960s. The house was built in Al Ain in 1958 for the late Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, father-in-law to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates. It was an ‘open house’ for visitors and a city landmark.
Following extensive renovations by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, Bait Mohammed bin Khalifa reopened in 2021 as a community centre. Bait Mohammed bin Khalifa is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Ain. It is a hybrid of traditional architecture and modern construction techniques and is a symbol of a changing society.
