Al Jahili Fort is one of the largest traditional forts in Al Ain and is a symbol of the city. Built between 1891 and 1898, the mudbrick fort is deeply rooted in the history of the emirate. Al Jahili Fort: Witness to History is a bilingual (English and Arabic) colour brochure that describes the architecture and construction of the fort within the history of Al Ain.
The 17-page booklet details conservation work over the years including the award-winning 2007 project which installed cooling technology within the traditional earthen building. In addition, the guide includes descriptions of the Entrance Gate, Visitors’ Centre, Temporary Exhibitions, the Round Tower and the Old Fort, to help visitors make the most of their visit. There are also sections on the old mosque and the permanent exhibition to British explorer Wilfred Thesiger (Mubarak bin London).
